Grandma's Plates Turned Modern

Remember way back in the day when mint green and peach were the color combos to die for? or the forest green and rose colored flowered hats that would  decorate the walls? My mom always seemed to have random plates and silver spoons filling the cupboards. I saw these pictures and it brought me back. I don't have a china cabinet or even the room for one so I thought it was such a fun and modern way to actually showcase all the beautiful plates and the sentimental memories that they may hold as works of art.  Don't have plates that have been passed down from your parents junk sentimental collection? Homesense or Value Village is a GREAT way to get the look for less. Mix and match and be creative!

The Perfect Coffee Table Book(s)

I have coffee table books on the brain in a big way. My coffee table is totally bare and I've been looking for the perfect piece to break it up.  They are great for adding visual interest to any space and they tend to tell a lot about the person that owns them.

If my husband Paul had his choice, he would have a stack of books on surfing, snowboarding, California, Hawaii and evangelism.  Myself on the other hand would have books on graphic design, interior design, Europe and maybe Anne Geddes.. (ok maybe not Anne Geddes but you get the jist). So where do the two meet? that's the beauty of it! we both get our own pile and share the space.. maybe one day I'll come home and see Paul flipping through my books on babies wrapped in fresh vegetables.. but probably not.

Here is my table wish list.

What's on your wishlist?

1. Modern Vintage Syle
2. Venice CA
3. The Big Book of Graphic Design
4. Expressive Photography
5. The Europe Book
6. The Fashion Book
7. Elliott Erwitt Paris
8. Everything is Going to Be OK

Playing with Texture

So we recently decided to revamp our living area. We live in a townhouse and purchased it about 4 years ago. When we moved in it had already been painted a dark mocha/rusted/puke color. It was great (insert sarcasm). I never loved it and it felt so dark and confining but with having all three floors  painted this color I seriously procrastinated repainting it all. Finally after 3 years of living with said color we decided to paint... and by "we" I mean "my husband". The truth is, I think he got tired of hearing me complain so away "we" went. It's been super fun to re-decorate the place (after the painting was finished of course) and in the process of it all I really got a feel for my likes and dislikes in my home. Texture is a huge like for me and whether its incorporating some velvet material into your couch pillows or a few wooden candle holders on a fireplace mantle I found out how much it brings visual interest into the home. Below are a few examples of things that add mega texture to any home.
